Her

It started innocently enough, 31st December 2014.

2014 wasn't a kind year for me. The last days of that dreadful year were spent eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2015. Little would I know that that fateful day would culminate to how things are now. Don't get me wrong, things are not bad, could be worse...could be a lot better too.

How do I tell this story without spilling too many secrets. Let's see...for the sake of this story I shall call her Keira. Keira had this bewitching smile on her face that night. The sort of smile that makes your heart beat faster, and one which you would remember for a really long time. Unfortunately Keira belonged to someone else then...

Fast forward 5 months, and the beginning of my month long exile in a land in the east. Keira watched as I passed the glass doors and the metal scanners, all the while remembering the promise she made to not cry. It was difficult leaving her behind. That was where the heartache, the longing and hallucinations of her started. Each day away from her was painful, dreadful...it felt like the sun had hidden behind the clouds. Nothing shone.

Oh the joy when we skyped for the first time. We would spend hours talking into the wee hours of the night. We had so much in common, so much chemistry, so much...fate. Tears came as the break of dawn ended our time together, snatching her back to the arms of another and me back to exile. The days rolled by and we grew closer. My exile was drawing to an end, and she had fled from another's arms, falling into mine as I returned.

All was sweet, a bed of roses.

As time went by things changed. Weeds grew and the beautiful rose begin to wilt. Still, it managed to hang on, gathering strength from the brief glimpses of sunlight poking through the shrubbery. Still, the weeds grew thicker...
